!!! Attention - eventual changes in WS 2024/35 will be implemented asap !!!
Mineralogy and Geochemistry is one of the four elective tracks of the M.Sc. program in Geology. The two-year master program consists of general foundations including research methods, seminars, field excursions and individual project (30 ECTS), specialty courses of the elective track (30 ECTS), free electives (30 ECTS), and master thesis (30 ECTS).
The Mineralogy and Geochemistry track provides advanced training in petrology and geochemistry, and it offers applications to mineral resources, geochemical cycles and applied geochemistry. In addition, these courses are open to interested students from other elective tracks, the M.Sc. Program Crystalline Materials or other programs as well as to Erasmus and international exchange students.
- Igneous processes (WS)
- High-temperature geochemistry (WS, was Advanced geochemistry)
- Low-temperature geochemistry (SS, was Isotope geochemistry")
Excursions
Field excursions (10 days compulsory) are offered by all geoscience groups.

Ph.D. studies
We are offering Ph.D. degree in Geology with focus on petrology, geochemistry and mineral resources. International applicants are invited to peruse availability of doctoral scholarships: DAAD, Erasmus. For further information please contact prospective supervisor from our team.
Postdoctoral research and habilitation
We invite applications from prospective postdoctoral fellows and early career researchers. In addition, the university offers habilitation (professorial qualification) to internal or external applicants. Interested applicants are invited to browse through our research projects and consult availability of postdoctoral funding at the DFG, DAAD, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Marie Curie Fellowship. For further information please contact the group leader Prof. Dr. Kerstin Hockmann.
